About the Jefferson Starship. WTF??? Sorry I believe the almost killed the show... "here's a song about slavery in the south." Gimmie A Break!!! I didn't pay my money to hear these guys try to bring everyone down or try to enlighten me on "social issues". I was sitting on the grass and saw so many folks head for the bathroom, to get a drink of a smoke during their set. It seemed to me they sucked all the energy out of the crowd. Gladly Dennis deyoung was able to wake people up a little... What else... Joe Lynn Turner needed to leave the stage after his set and Let Buck Darmah do his thing. We will never know what could have taken place on that stage Saturday Night... Thanks to "Technical difficulties" and the City of Cary town council... Next time, if there is one, Leave the Jefferson Buzzkill out and make sure the sound crew has a bit more of a backup plan. It could have been the most amazeing 45 minutes that we missed...

I must really be an old turd, because I liked them! Their music is interwoven with all my memories of the 70's, and that Cathy Richardson can WAIL! Boy is she versatile too...her star will shine long after the rest of the band is gone. Matter of fact, I think the band just came together to do this show didn't they? Wasn't this a "reunion" show? Oh well, I dug it and I know some others did too.

Maybe I'm a tad too young , but I didn't get anything out of their set either. Just before I dozed off I heard her make that slavery comment, I was like "wtf"? I couldn't follow the song so I never did "get" her point. EDIT: Oh and DDY's performance should go in the highlights thread. Is there a highlights thread? Must go and see....

I had my anti-political filter on and pretty much ignored that junk - wrong decade, wrong century. From a musical standpoint, I was extremely impressed with Cathy Richardson's vocals and I thought the last few numbers got stronger as they went - particularly White Rabbit & Someone to Love (especially with the Pride in the Name of Love intro that they hit dead on).

You took the words right out of my mouth...
I thought she was very good. I think perhaps the younger folks don't remember "Jefferson Airplane" ... they are thinking about songs like "We Built this City ... "? Clearly their sound/style changed during the 80s. |

Speaking for myself, I'm familiar with the old Jefferson Airplane. I recognized most of the songs in their set from hearing them on the radio, but being a teen from the early 80's I think I'm from the wrong group to fully appreciate them. They just didn't connect with me. And when she did that horrible intro with "in the name of love", I thought she'd pierce my ears! I hated it.

Myself I loved Jefferson Starship, as did my wife we are both over 50 and grew up in the 60s/70s. I thought they sounded great. The only person that basically sucked on Sat was the 16 year old Blanchard, she was simply awful. All N All I got my $50 worth but clearly like everyone else was disappointed at the no show (or more aptly not allowed to play) of any "Special Guest". Not to mention a few of even the scheduled artist didn't even show, like MoonAlice

Roger that, Nunyabiz! I know the teen was a progeny of the Entwistle Foundation ,but boy did that selection BLOW! She had plenty of talent on the guitar, so why not let her come out and do an acoustic version of something with limited (or at least softer) lyrics, instead of hammering the axe with screeching repetitive vocals? "My friend's a STREEEEETWALKER!" Puleeze! I've been planning to look into what happened with Moonalice. They have a website you know? If anyone has the time free, how about going there and posting a question if they have a spot for one. Maybe they didn't get along with Rick or something? Who knows...

I went to the Moonalice website and sent an email asking what happened - I'll let y'all know what I find out, if anything.

Just wondering if anyone has thought about or planned to write the Town of Cary regarding saturday and the noise ordinance debacle. The shut down buck was passed to the town so seems like they are the obvious ones to lobby for any future variance requests if we don't want a similar finale (if the HOF even wants to come back). On that note, when the organizers were being turned down for the variance, don't you think it could have been a good idea to get the CITIZENS/FANS involved? It could have very easily been posted on the forum and requests made to lobby the council...

Wow, that was fast. Here's the response from Moonalice: Dear Tammy, Thank you for your message. We feel terrible about having to cancel our planned appearance at the benefit in Cary. Unfortunately, G.E. Smith could not be there for personal reasons. We aren't Moonalice without GE, so we felt it would be wrong to go ahead with the gig. We look forward to coming back to NC soon. We hope to meet you then. Take care, Roger aka Chubby Wombat Moonalice

Sounds like we will have to lobby someone to get them here to perform! As I recall, their webpage has a supporter sign-up to help them get plugged-in to venues and such. Maybe we can mobilize some folks to work with them on that? Let's keep it in the back of our mind for when we finish salivating over last weekend. We might all consider tapping the webpages of the performers we enjoyed (in spite of the fact that almost no one got to meet them - KACHOOOO!) and thank them for a great show.

Ya'll forgive me for harping on this, but I just can't get over the fact that Roger an Pete could have been there and were not allowed to perform! Did the town of Cary even know who they were? I mean MY GOD- they might as well have turned ELVIS away

It felt like Jefferson Airplane played for six months. If one thing is certain, musicians talk. The truth about what happened back there will eventually come out of somebody's mouth.
